Get A Clue Recruiters

For developers, we are constantly being hassled by head hunters and recruiters. The demand for a good developer is very high – and the supply is low (excluding the mediocre developers out there – you know who you are).  Good developers all have a common trait – they are smart! So to attract them, you better have something that will get their attention. This is usually a company that have challenging technical problems or a hot/cute receptionist.

But I am continually seeing the same stupid style of job ads.

Rock Star Developer Needed – are you frigging kidding? Most developers I know are introverts. The last thing they want is to attract attention to themselves. Also, when was the last time a ‘rock star’ was considered smart. I always presumed a rock star to be drug, sex and rock+roll – hardly someone you want on your dev team.

Ninja Coder Needed – WTF? I never knew ninja can code. They are assassins with skills to kill or hurt others. Why would these skills be good for a ‘team’ of developers?

Entrepreneurial – Huh??? If they are, wouldn’t they be doing their own thing. (In case you missed it, the photo is of Richard Branson).
