TED : The Elite Dweebs
So the TED conference is here again. This is probably one of the most pretentious ‘idea’ conferences. Its a bunch of rich boys getting together to have fun under the guise of a ‘thinking’ conference. Lets look at the facts:
- ticket price: $6K+. This is priced to filter out all the riffraffs (that’s poor/common people).
- invite only (just in case you are the rich riffraffs that struck it rich with facebook or iphone apps – NOT).
- speakers are rich and possibly entertaining: JK Rowling, J.J. Abrams, Jeff Bezos, David Blaine, Bono, Richard Branson etc. Since they are rich and successful, they have nothing to prove and don’t do your usual riffraff conferences like crunchies, web20. (NOTE: any conferences that have Robert Scoble as a speaker/panel expert is a Riffraff conference. He is NOT invited to TED)
Its a shame, these speakers will probably make a bigger impact to the common people speaking at the riffraff conferences. But I don’t blame them either. Have you seen the ‘brown nosers’ that rushes the speakers at the end of a session? Sad.
